About COTS
The Church on the Square was born in the midst of the lockdowns—a time when gathering was forbidden, yet obedience to Scripture compelled us to meet. From our beginning, we have stood on the conviction that Christ alone is Head of the Church and that we must not forsake the assembling of the brethren. We gather as families to worship through the reading of Scripture, the singing of hymns, and the preaching of deep, unvarnished biblical truth. Our teaching follows a classical framework that prizes wisdom over trend, conviction over comfort, and discipleship over entertainment.
We are unapologetically engaged in the public square, believing that the lordship of Christ extends to every sphere of life—including culture and civil governance. Our pastor and members speak boldly in love at school boards, city councils, civil protests and wherever truth must be proclaimed. Though we are small, we are steadfast and welcoming—a fellowship of Christian dissidents who seek to live faithfully, think clearly, and speak truth in an age of confusion.
Our Convictions
At The Church on the Square, our beliefs are not new—they are ancient truths lived out in a modern world.
We confess Christ as Lord over all things and seek to bring every thought, every word, and every sphere of life under His authority.
1. Christ Is Head of the Church
We believe that Jesus Christ is the sole head of His Church and that no government, institution, or cultural pressure has the authority to silence the worship of His people. We gather in obedience to His command, not the permission of men.
2. The Word of God Is Sufficient and Supreme
We stand on the unadulterated Word of God as our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Our preaching is expository, our teaching deep and rooted in the whole counsel of Scripture—not shaped by trends, but by truth.
3. The Family Is Central to Discipleship
We worship together as households, believing parents are the primary disciplers of their children, and that men are the leaders of their families. We sing, pray, and learn as families under the authority of Christ, cultivating faithfulness that spans generations.
4. The Gospel Speaks to Every Sphere of Life
The lordship of Christ extends beyond the sanctuary to the home, the school board, the city council, and the workplace. We believe the Church must speak prophetically to culture, declaring that Jesus is Lord—over politics, art, education, and all creation.
5. The Gathering Is Sacred
We do not forsake the assembling of the brethren. In the gathered congregation, the Holy Spirit is uniquely present—convicting, comforting, and conforming us to Christ. No screen or stream can substitute for this holy fellowship.
6. Truth Requires Courage
We live in an age that prizes comfort over conviction. We aim to be a people of wisdom and courage—rooted in grace, grounded in truth, and ready to stand when the world demands silence.
Our worship is simple, reverent, and rooted in the historic practices of the Church.
We gather each Lord’s Day as families to lift our voices in old hymns that are theologically sound and rich with meaning—songs that have strengthened the faith of generations before us. We sing not to entertain, but to adore; not to stir emotion, but to shape the heart in truth.
Each Sunday, we come to the Lord’s Table together to partake of communion as a congregation, remembering Christ’s sacrifice and proclaiming His Lordship until He comes again. As a confession of our shared faith, we recite the Nicene Creed, joining our voices with the saints across centuries who have boldly declared the same gospel.
Our church is elder-led, and the men of our congregation bear the responsibility of spiritual leadership—guiding in prayer, teaching, and leading in worship—so that our gatherings reflect both order and obedience to God’s design.
We come not as spectators, but as participants in the worship of the living God—our hearts, our homes, and our voices united in praise.
